Varietal – A term to describe the characteristics of a variety of wine consistent with that varieties flavours.

Veraison – A stage of grape growth where the berry goes from small and hard to a fuller more ripe stage of development.

Vigneron – Vine grower.

Vin – French for wine.

Vinegar – A tasting term that refers to the sour taste in a wine, sour being a primary property of vinegar.

Vinosity – A term that describes the wine as a whole as a wine, a complete description of the wine that covers all aspects of tasting, smell and colour.

Vintage – Refers to a particular year that a grape variety was harvested in.

Viscous – Describes the thickness or weight of a wine. When a wine has a heavy body it is generally considered a viscous wine. Both residual sugar and alcohol content affect the viscous quality of a wine.

Viticulture – The science of and practice of growing grapes and grape vines.

Vitis Vinifera - Basic European species of grape growing vine, also the species brought to countries like Australia.

Volatile – Descriptive tasting term that refers to a too high acidity generally interpreted as a sour taste derived from incorrect acid balance.
